Creative commons and Magnatune...what a great idea!!!
In the interview with John Buckman he states that there was a ton of music out there that was not getting published, and a lot of genres of music that were getting lost. Magnatunes is doing a great service to musicians and society alike. I signed up for their free trial and have been listening to some of there stuff. It's great. The fact that they can do this and encourage artists to put out music in a way that gives them the right to make decisions about how it is used I'm sure if a relief and miracle to the artists that are struggling to be heard.
Creative commons seems to work in the same manor, they just work with all kinds of artists, musicians & writters. Get it out there. Let them be heard and give them a chance at their dreams.

"It's amazing and we're not amazed"
I think that quoat from Kevin Kelly was spot on!! Most of us don't give a thought to the growing web, it has become an expectation rather than a wonder (speaking in my small corner of the world). The intent of the web was "TV only better" impossible, but with that model humans were able to create something, shall we say, unstoppable. Kevin stated many times that things were impossible in practice but not in practice...Wikipedia. To listen to his talk opened my eyes more to the magnitude of of what has been created in a relatively short period of time. "We have to get better at believing in the impossible" completely true as we have experienced and will continue to be amazed with the progress.
The "one machine", "running uniterupted", I was having flashes of "big brother". I can't really justify that as the one machine will be watching our every move but that the one machine will know everything about us and put that information out there and accessible to (anyone?).
When he spoke of being codependent on the one machine, I was thinking we have that now. Can you tell me your parents phone numbers? When was the last time you looked at a paper map for directions? When was the last time you left the house without your cell phone? I watch the people I work with (Most are a good 10 years younger than I am) and wonder how they would have maintained relationships without the web!!
Fasten your seatbelts everyone....this is a fast moving ride!!!

Me in the cloud!
Am I in the cloud?...Here I am. My day starts early and I go to the computer to participate on my online classes. I go to work and work on a scheduling program through the web and Electronic Health Records. I usually send a text or two during the day and use my cell phone on my drive home from work. Then as some point in the evening we go to you tube to watch something my 5 year old can't wait to see. Then it's back to school online and reading from my kindle before sleep. Yes, I am in the cloud!!
The AT&T commercial was great...I remember them. That stuff is all happening. I borrow books and read them online. We pay tolls by just driving through, although most of them you do need to slow down for. With Facetime and Skype along with (I'm sure there are more out there) others that are unknown to me we can video chat with friends and family or attend a meeting when we are in another location. Those are just a few of the things that were fortold in the commercial!
